I must say, this year’s batch really has a lot of strong contenders that I had such a hard time choosing my Top 15. Countless are the times that I have to reshuffle this list, names going in and out. And I love that a lot of the candidates this year are perfectly beautiful in their own ways and are very much likeable. Well, after long hours of thorough researching and fangirl-ing... here are my Top 15 Candidates for Miss Universe 2013. :)
15. Miss Ukraine – Olga Storozhenko
First on the list is Miss Ukraine, Olga Storozhenko. Ukrainian girls are known for their angelic, innocent but striking, and flawlessly delicate beauties, and Olga is no exception. She looks like a vintage beauty icon to me. But I’m afraid that she would be too boring and uninteresting for Miss Universe. I watched her videos and I definitely think that she has to spice it up for her to stand out among the other gorgeous candidates. Nevertheless, I really like her beauty. She is just so stunning and ethereal. Some say that she reminds them of Miss Universe 2001 Oxana Fedorova. But just like Oxana, could she also become Miss Universe? ;)
14. Miss Philippines – Ariella Arida
Miss Philippines has a massive popularity which she has gotten because of the crazed Filipino beauty pageant fans hungry for their 3rd Miss Universe crown. I’m sorry fellow crazed Filipino fans, but seeing the roster of this year’s candidates, I don’t really think Ariella has a great chance to bring home the crown for you. Sometimes, she’s beautiful. But most of the time, I think she looks way too old and transgender-y. But, will somebody advice her that she would look so much better if she’s not smiling? It really gives her an enigmatic look. If she wants to smile, she should do it without showing her teeth or keep it reserved. Her communication skills are lacking. But she has a fairly strong catwalk though. She is the candidate that has the most haters but I think that just contributes more to her popularity. Ariella’s runner-up, Mutya Datul who recently won the Miss Supranational 2013 title should’ve been Philippines’ representative this year. I think Mutya Datul has more Miss Universe potential than Ariella Arida. Well, sorry Philippines, maybe next year. ;) *But, a part of the patriotic me still wants her to win. Juz sayin’... :P
13. Miss Russia – Elmira Abdrazakova
Home court advantage. Nuff’ said. Nah... Well, Elmira is a very beautiful girl. It’s just that I can’t see her as having the IT factor that a Miss Universe material has to have. Besides, she’s nowhere to be seen when she represented Russia in this year’s Miss World. She has dollish features but she looks too 30-never and cutesy for Miss Universe. Her being the host delegate is what’s keeping her on this list.
12. Miss Croatia – Melita Fabecic
A rare, exotic European beauty. She’s exuding something like a Caribbean or Polynesian look. I kinda also see some South or Southeast Asian features on her. Yep, she’s definitely one of those beauties that transcend ethnicities. Many pageant enthusiasts are captivated by her exceptional beauty and allure. Dubbed as the femme fatale from Croatia, her major sex appeal would never go unnoticed. Also, a lot of people say that she bears a resemblance to supermodel Adriana Lima. Watch out because this scorching hot candidate would sizzle in Russia!
11. Miss Poland – Paulina Krupinska
Miss Poland is no doubt a very, very pretty girl. She has that young, fresh, girlish, and princess-like beauty. She always looks so gorgeous and charming. She sported a fringe when she won Miss Poland and combined with her charismatic personality, she reminded me of the adorkable actress Zooey Deschanel. Although, her not-so toned body could be her weakness in the Miss Universe pageant. But still, she’s so cute and lovely! And besides, I have never seen a bad photo of her. Will someone give her the Miss Photogenic award already?
10. Miss Panama – Carolina Brid
VOGUISH. That’s how I would describe Miss Panama in one word. She’s looking like a high-class woman who wants nothing but the best from the world! So chic and fabulous! She somehow reminds me of a courtesan, ready to entrance a careless man into giving her everything she wants. And don't you know that Carolina has to leave college so that she can dedicate herself in the preparation for Miss Universe? It just goes to show that this girl is dedicated and determined to give it her all in Russia!
9. Miss Great Britain – Amy Willerton
Her body is just... WOW. I mean, you know, Mr. Trump will definitely like this candidate. ;) When I first saw her photos, I thought that she looked like a sexy actress or a reality show star. After I did my research, I was thrown aback to know that she really is a reality star! She’s already a hotshot celebrity in Britain. Though, I wasn’t surprised to learn that this candidate was scandalous because I’m sensing a vibe emanating from her that commands undivided attention. Well, she was scandalous for all the right reasons. She was the one brave enough to speak up and expose the fraud that is Miss Asia Pacific World which was held in Korea last 2011. She also said that she’d get lawyers to sue the organizers. I read articles about it and found out that some of the organizers offered the candidates a placement in the pageant in exchange for sex. How cruel is that?! Poor girls! Put in indecent rooms, left hungry, no security and chaperones, held stuck in Korea, biased competition [Miss Korea fraudulently won] and most of all, sexually harassed! Major props for Amy Willerton’s courage and sense of justice! *Applause* Anyway, Amy really has that undeniable star quality that makes people interested in her and would want to get to know her more. With her fierceness and bold attitude, I’m betting that she’s definitely bound to rock at Miss Universe this year!
8. Miss Indonesia – Whulandary Herman
Miss Indonesia has a very sophisticated, elegant and classy look. It is said that Whulandary is the most gorgeous candidate to ever represent Indonesia in worldwide beauty pageants. I really thought that she has a mixed race, something like Eurasian, but I was surprised to know that she’s 100% Indonesian. Browsing through her photos online, I found that they’re mostly modelling pictures that show her exceptional skills as a model. This girl definitely knows her angles and uses the light to her advantage! (Ha! So much for watching ANTM! xD) Hello, another potential Miss Photogenic! Her achievements as a model include winning the Asian Top Model of the Year 2012 and 3rd Runner-up in the International Model of the Year 2009. She's the epitome of an exotic but modern Southeast Asian beauty. Considered as the leading Asian delegate this year, can this promising and gorgeous beauty bring home Indonesia's first Miss Universe crown?
7. Miss Dominican Republic – Yaritza Reyes
This girl is SPICY! Some say that she might be too sweet and sassy for Miss Universe, but let’s see what happens. Her wild, funky curls are definitely her trademark. She looks so youthful and full of energy! And she kinda reminds me of Alicia Keys's beauty. Well, is Yaritza ready to bring her sass and spunk and make waves in this year's Miss Universe competition?
6. Miss Colombia – Lucia Aldana
Lucia Aldana is definitely a frontrunner in the competition. She has an inspiring success story to be proud of and who wouldn’t fall prey to the irresistible charms of this Colombian beauty? At first, I confused Miss Bolivia as Miss Colombia. It’s because they kinda look alike. Don’t you think so too? I think those big, intense eyes that they have in common are what confused me. Well, Lucia has an innocent and divine look in contrast with Miss Bolivia’s fierce and intense beauty. Let's see if Lucia's charming beauty can captivate people's hearts while she's in Russia!
5. Miss Italy – Luna Voce
Luna Voce is absolutely STUNNING! Even in candid and stolen photos, she looks perfect, perfect, perfect. This girl finally put the spotlight back on Italy’s sash. She has already joined two international pageants namely; Miss International 2008 and Miss Earth 2009, but unfortunately failed to bring home a crown. On the bright side, she impressively won the Top Model of the World title in 2012. Now, it seems like this girl won’t stop until she gets an international beauty title. She also tried her chances in some other pageants. Others say that her being a pageant veteran could go against her chances of winning. But, with her evident determination and willpower, can she finally be able to get her most sought-after international crown this time around?
4. Miss Puerto Rico – Monic Perez
Many people say that Miss Puerto Rico has a striking resemblance with Angelina Jolie. And I totally agree! Also, her beauty reminds me of Jennifer Lopez. She’s definitely an Angelina Jolie-Jennifer Lopez hybrid. Monic is gifted with a perfectly symmetrical face. I mean, her face is just breathtakingly FLAWLESS! But hey, why the nose job? It somehow took away her exotic charms. She never even needed to do it! I mean, she looked perfect and people loved her way before she decided to fix her nose. Nevertheless, I think Miss Puerto Rico has the complete package to win the Miss Universe crown. She's one major ultra-mega threat to the other candidates!
3. Miss Bolivia – Alexia Viruez
Miss Bolivia’s beauty reminds me of Olivia Wilde. The beautiful, big piercing eyes and well-defined features are certainly her similarities with the actress. If I were given a chance to reincarnate myself and have the power to choose the kind of beauty I would have, I would definitely choose Miss Bolivia’s beauty. She just looks so fierce, stunning and very goddess-y! Like, she’s Athena, Aphrodite, and Hera all in one gorgeous package! I’m amazed and stunned by her and how she carries herself. Somehow, I can definitely see a crown on this GODDESS.
2. Miss Israel – Yityish Aynaw
A black Barbie. She’s so charming and cute when she’s just casual. But whenever she has all the fabulous make-up and the glamorous gown on? Oh come on, this girl is A QUEEN. Her skin color is also gorgeous! What’s so amazing about this girl is that more than just being Miss Israel, she also stands up for and represents the minority populace who are victimized by racial prejudice in her country. She’s the first black woman to ever win Miss Israel. Yityish has already met US President Barack Obama whom she said is her role model and hero. She mostly reminds me of Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes. Could this regal lady reign as the next Miss Universe?
1. Miss France – Hinarani de Longeaux
Miss France is the candidate that really caught my eye. She’s very beautiful in such a unique, exotic way. Something about her is so exciting and enticing! The first time I saw her photos, I really thought that she should be Miss Universe 2013. She’s an Adriana Lima-esque beauty, alongside Miss Croatia. But I find that she’s more like Adriana Lima than Miss Croatia is with regards to beauty and charisma. Hinarani is beyond doubt, a Tahitian gem. Just like a magnet, she’s drawing people and making them in love with her mesmerizing and extraordinary beauty. Her beauty is totally unforgettable! Spellbinding beautiful face? Check. Effortlessly hot body? Check. Winning catwalk? Hopefully worked on it right now. (Crossing fingers!) Charm and wits? Check. Confidently beautiful? Check! Check! Check! Miss Universe all the way! :D
