Papilionanthe-LAN BƯỚM (LAN CÀNH GIAO, VÂN LAN)

Loài lan Papilionanthe do Rudolf Schlechter (1872-1925) một khoa học gia người Đức công bố vào năm 1915. Loài lan này trước kia được xếp vào giống Vanda teres, vì lá cây giống như chiếc đũa hay chiếc bút chì (pencil-like). Tên Việt do Phạm Hoàng Hộ: Lan Cành Giao, Vân Lan. Trần Hợp: Lan Bướm. Thân đơn cao từ 1-2 m, hoa giống như hình con bướm mọc trên các đầm lầy, rừng rậm từ Sri Lanka, Á Châu và các đảo quốc thuộc Thái Bình Dương. Là một giống phong lan (epiphytes) cho nên rễ lan nhỏ và nhiều thường bám trên các cành cây.

 2. Papilionanthe pedunculata - Phong lan, thân cao 1-3 m, lá hình ống dài 5-10 cm. Chùm hoa dài chừng 15 cm. Hoa 5-10 chiếc, nở 5-6 chiếc một lượt, to chừng 5-7 cm. Lâu tàn nở vào mùa Xuân. - Nơi mọc: Lâm Đồng, Đà Lạt

 3. Papilionanthe teres - Phong lan hay điạ lan cao chừng 1 m, lá hình ống như chiếc đũa. Dò hoa dài 20-30 cm, hoa 5-7 chiếc nhưng chỉ nở 2-3 chiếc một lần. Môi hoa không có chấm tím như Papilionanthe hookeriana. Nở vào mùa Xuân-Hạ và lâu tàn. - Lan mọc ở Đồng Nai, Đà Lạt và Huế.
